MONTGOMERY - Alabama Shakespeare Festival is proud to announce the end of another season filled with both artistic and financial success. From the highly acclaimed world premiere of Vernon Early, the new work by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Horton Foote, to the blockbuster musical Always .. Patsy Cline, ASF continued its tradition as a cultural and entertainment touchstone for the State of Alabama and the Southeastern United States. Although the season closed on September 6, one of the 1997-98 season highlights, an innovative production of The Taming of the Shrew set in 1950s America, will embark on a national tour during the month of October. This is ASFs first tour in nine years, and will travel to eleven states, from Florida to Massachusetts. This season saw an overall growth in support from individual, corporate, foundation, and government sources. ASF Director of Development Eve Loeb said the reputation and longevity that ASF enjoys has encourage more donors to view the Festival as a sound investment opportunity. Additionally, they see a contribution to ASF as a way to add to the economic, cultural and educational impact that the Festival has on the state and region. ASFs 1998-99 season begins in a few weeks with a stellar line-up of 13 plays, including Shakespearean masterpieces, a musical, and three world premieres:
