RSVP’s Celebrate Silver

The Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) of the Montgomery Area Council on Aging (MACOA) celebrated its 25th anniversary recently at the Montgomery Civic Center on September 9, 1998. More than 900 volunteers from Autauga, Elmore and Montgomery Counties were honored for their unselfish dedication and service. Past and present members and guest from the three counties gathered for this year’s theme "A Very Formal Affair".

On hand for the festivities were costumed clan entertainers including, Mae West, Charlie Chaplin, Fanny Brice and Will Rogers. Florenz Ziegfeld of Ziegfeld Follies fame (A.K.A. Rick Derrick, Public Relations Director of Baptist Health) was the Master of Ceremonies creating a fun-filled circus-like atmosphere. A bag containing $20.00 in silver coins contributed by AmSouth was given away as a door prize.

Honorary Chairperson, Anita Folmar—First Lady of Montgomery officially welcomed everyone and introduced the guests to the representing chairpersons of each county: Nancy Williams, Autauga County; Jan wood, Elmore County; and Ginger Blusewicz of Montgomery County.

The Honorable Emory Folmar, Mayor of Montgomery, officially welcomed everyone and praised the efforts of the community’s volunteers. "Selfless acts and incredible dedication to the community is what more of this country needs," remarked Folmar. "Volunteers give of their time, of their spirit and of their heart and for that, I thank you."

The Jefferson Davis High School Show Choir provided after dinner entertainment with a fabulous performance of singing and choreographed dancing to many past favorites. A Taste of the Ziegfeld Follies, under the direction of Rebecca Shofner was a favorite of many as they relived the hey-day of a by-gone era.

Pauline Frambach, Director of RSVP, also received a special appreciation gift for her 20 years of service. "I am fortunate to part of such a wonderful organization," said Ms. Frambach. "There’s a place in my heart for everyone who offers their services so others may benefit."

If you or you know someone who is interested in the RSVP program, call your local county office and find out more about the opportunities available. In Montgomery call 265-9204 for more information.
