Now that a hot air balloon has successfully made a
round-the-globe voyage, Decatur's Hot Air Balloon festival on May 29-31 should certainly
attract a lot of interest and be a popular family destination.
This annual Alabama Jubilee Hot-Air Balloon Classic is held on the grounds of Point
Mallard Park, and is billed as one of the largest free balloon festivals in the Southeast.
An antique car show, arts and crafts, seafood and various vendors round out the fun. Races
are held at 6:30 am and 5:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
Spread a blanket, open a thermos of coffee and enjoy a breakfast outdoors while you
watch the early morning launch of these huge, colorful airships.
