Hank Williams was born in Georgiana. When his mother moved to Montgomery to run a boardinghouse, Hank Williams came with her, bringing his old guitar, which he had learned to play from an old street-singer named Teetot. Standing on the stage of the Empire Theatre, the rail-thin youth sang "The WPA Blues," and won the $15 first prize that included an audition to appear on a show at WSFA radio. Hank Williams died at age 29 in the backseat of his 1952 Cadillac, which is featured at the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery.
