BIRDS EYE VIEW Visitors to Emerald Mountain can
get a birds eye view of the new 18-hole golf course set to open by Labor Day. Steven
Arnberg (white shirt) and Jim Allen look down from the seven-story "Heart and
Soul" hot air balloon piloted by owner Dave Knoblock (red shirt). The hot air balloon
is used frequently during Emerald Mountain open houses and other events.
These days are exciting times at Emerald Mountain. This little town is set to
grow as more communities form along their new golf course scheduled to be open for tee
times by Labor Day. Steven Arnberg, who along with Montgomery area developer Jim Allen,
heads Emerald Mountain Realty, plans a series of events leading up to the official opening
of the golf course.
There will be a number of open houses with live radio broadcast and, from time to time,
a tethered hot air balloon to give visitors a birds eye look at the golf course. The
open houses will run all summer from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sundays
Near the entrance to the golf course, a permanent Emerald Mountain Model Home and
Information Center will soon open. To celebrate, Arnberg is planning a two-day celebration
(July 13-14).
On July 13, famous New Orleans Chef Stieffel Emile and his team of culinary experts
will be at the Emerald Mountain Clubhouse to prepare a feast for the entire community.
On July 14, Chef Emile will prepare another feast at the clubhouse to introduce area
Realtors to the new golf course community and show off the Model Home and Information
Center. Since Chef Emiles cuisine is distinctly French, the July 14 celebration will
be in honor of the French holiday, Bastille Day.
The celebrations on both days will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. All the visitors are required
to bring are their appetites.
Emerald Mountain Golf Course
Designed by Ward Northrup, a Miami-based golf course architect, the golf course offers
a wide range of terrain.
There are a variety of holes. Some offer with vistas, others are tucked into the
cypress preserve and still others transition from high ridges through the valleys of large
hardwoods. One hole is a reminder of the rolling hills of Kentucky. Another reminds one of
a ridge top overlooking a valley in Tennessee.
Yet another hole gives the feeling of a Louisiana bayou with lily pads, cypress trees
and aquatic flowers. On the fourth hole the ball travels from a mountaintop, over a large
valley to a mountain landing.
The Emerald Mountain Golf Club is a private club with daily access fees for those who
are not members.
New Home Showcases Planned
As the new golf course nears completion, four new communities that overlook parts of
the course will open. They are River Birch Park, Mountain Laurel, Dogwood Meadows, and
Walnut Point.
Later this summer, Arnberg plans an Emerald Mountain Showcase of Homes.
Emerald Mountain offers its buyers a million-dollar view of the Tallapoosa River Valley
and Montgomery's growing cityscape. From the clubhouse and from other points, the view
stretches from downtown Montgomery to well past Auburn University Montgomery.
Arnberg said, "If you have not been to Emerald Mountain, you can not imagine its
beauty and its many amenities. It offers an equestrian center, tennis courts, a large
community clubhouse, an overlook park with a children's playground, more than five miles
of nature trails, three nature parks and a 112-acre wetland park."
