Therapeutic Recreation
...Treatment For The Mind, Body, and Soul
The second week in July is National Therapeutic Recreation Week, established to enhance
public awareness of therapeutic recreation programs and services, and to expand
opportunities for individuals with disabilities. On Tuesday, July 13, 1999, the Montgomery
Therapeutic Recreation Center will host a workshop on the importance and benefits of
therapeutic recreation.
The Therapeutic Recreation Center, sponsored by the City of Montgomery, offers day
camps, preschool programs, Special Olympics events, wheelchair sports, horseback riding,
adult wellness activities, support clubs, arts and crafts, computer classes, and a travel
club for disabled individuals of all ages.
Therapeutic Recreation works by involving people in leisure activities that are also
beneficial therapies. Participants become so engaged in the excitement of the
activities that they forget their problems and limitations.
